Our History

Grant McArthur (right) is a college sophomore pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is beginning a summer internship as a Fifth-Generation Miner. His father, Wade McArthur (left), is a Fourth-Generation Miner and the President of Austinville Limestone Company. What inspired Grant to pursue a career in mining? His family's multi-generational legacy in the industry likely played a significant role. Both his father and Uncle Dave (also a fourth-generation and Vice President of Austinville Limestone), along with his grandfather (a third-generation miner and retired president), have established a family tradition of working in the mining sector.

As a father, Wade prioritizes mentoring Grant to remain vigilant and place safety at the forefront of his work. With heavy rock quarry equipment involved, being aware of one's surroundings is crucial advice for a young miner just starting out. While many of Grant's peers are busy playing video games, he operates a massive front-end wheel loader, loading large quarry dump trucks with substantial payloads for the Limestone Plant. He is also being guided by experienced miners, working alongside the Quarry Foreman, Plant Foreman, and Maintenance Team, and has even had the opportunity to try his hand at welding.
